Hello, I am the founder of Utilising Insights Ltd., a user-centred design consultancy. My fascination with observing, studying, and interpreting human behaviour, inspired by Sherlock Holmes, led me to earn a First-Class Honours degree in Neuropsychology and an MSc in Investigative Psychology with Distinction.
Captivated by the intricate workings of detectives and profilers, a theme present in shows like Criminal Minds and The Blacklist, I delved into Investigative Psychology for my master’s degree, focusing my research dissertation on Criminal Narratives.
During this educational journey, I also undertook a Health Research Internship, which further bolstered my research capabilities and led to a published journal article. This formative experience deepened my commitment to providing research-based solutions.
With over a decade of experience in both public and private sectors, I’ve gained a wealth of experience, notably within central government departments. This allows me to navigate the complexities of GDS standards with ease and proficiency.
As a leader, I believe in empowering, protecting, and championing my teams. I am passionate about mental health and well-being in the industry, a commitment that’s manifested in my studies in Mental Health First Aid and a presentation I’ve given on the topic of self-care in user research.
When not immersed in professional pursuits, I relish the thrill of learning new skills and hobbies. Whether it’s learning to ski with my partner, delving into the riveting narratives of a good book, or slowly mastering the violin (a nod to my Sherlock-inspired beginnings!), I value personal growth and enjoyment. And of course, my world wouldn’t be complete without Oscar, my lovable dog.
Throughout my journey, I’ve dedicated myself to sharing knowledge, with contributions like a published article on the HMRC blog titled ‘Making sure everyone can use the service’ and delivering the ‘Introduction to User Research in Government’ training course.
